Ahhhh...boys will be boys!

I was all ready to bake you some cookies, the flour was in the bowl, the spices were added, the butter and sugar all melted and then there was a scream outside.

Aidan fell and cut his forehead and I panicked, I saw blood and I was not the calm mum I normally am, I cried, he cried...Amelie cried and then we went to the hospital.

After alot of crying, he got some gas (I could have used some), calmed down and three stitches later and a cuddle and sleep, we were playing with trucks in the hospital room.

Maybe I'll get to those cookies tomorrow...right now I am still a little shaken...

It's hard work having fun!

Happy Monday friends, I feel exhausted today and the week has just begun!

Hope you celebrated Earth Hour in style, we were lucky enough to have been invited to the Zoo to celebrate Earth Hour in VIP style...yes, FUN!

Zoo Victoria invited a bunch of bloggers to celebrate with animals, music, food and wine, what a way to spend the evening.
We had a behind the scenes tour of the zoo and relaxed on the lawn listening to the Wagons & Tim Rogers.

Was great to see other bloggers around, and you know a true blogger when you see them taking pics of their food.

Was very lovely to meet Pip and her family and the lovely Anthea.

On Sunday we had a great time at the Apple Tasting Festival thanks to a family pass by RRR.

A wonderful family day out with kids activities, yummy bio dynamic food, apples, icy poles and music to entertain young and old.

Now back to reality and some pincushion assembly.

A bit of a late creative space this week as we have had a busy end of kinder morning and now it's all about ME!

So I am cutting pieces and hopefully getting a start on my pincushion to take with me tonight.

Vegan Muffins

Happy Monday friends, I just wanted to share a vegan muffin recipe with you, very simple and good for kids lunch boxes.

This is the base for the muffins, you can add whatever you like to it in the end.
I made normal sized muffins but you can also make mini ones as well and freeze them when they have cooled by wrapping in plastic.

Vegan Muffins
makes 24


  • 3 cups self raising flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups soy milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3-4 ripe bananas
  • preheat oven to 180 C, oil spray muffins tins
  • mash bananas and add to soy milk in a small saucepan over a low heat and allow to heat slightly for a few minutes, set aside
  • add vegetable oil to milk mixture
  • put flour and sugar in a large bowl and mix together
  • add milk mixture to dry mixture and mix by hand just until combined, if the mixture is too dry add a little bit more soy milk. mixture should not be dry or too wet, just thick enough to hold it's shape
  • now you can add anything you like to flavour your muffins
  • sultanas, nuts, frozen berries, only mix until everything is mixed through, do not over mix as muffins will end up tough
  • bake for about 25 minutes until slightly golden and firm to touch
Enjoy! Lovely plate was from the tip shop again, yeah, someone really wanted to throw it away and I saved it to enjoy a life of cupcakes and sweets.

My Creative Space...

Today I am really baking, but I can't bore you with that every week.
What i really want to be doing is completing this project.

I found this lovely frame tossed on the nature strip the other day...(yeah, i know!!) and I had this vision that it will be my new note board, I just need to find a cork board which fits that isn't already framed (any ideas where to get that from Melbournians) and cover it in this lovely apple fabric.

It will be done by next week and I can show you the finished product.

my kinder day

Today we had a fabulous baking experience at Amelie's kinder where the kids helped bake vanilla cupcakes (can't go wrong) and decorated them all by themselves.

Amelie wrote her name by herself for the first time on a painting she did which was a wonderful thing to witness.

Spending the day at kinder I have a new appreciation for kinder teachers because they really are fabulous and I love that my little girl is in such a wonderful environment before she begins her long school life.

Hope you are having a great week so far, my head is still a little fuzzy but I am guessing it's this sudden burst of heat we have had the last few days.
Ahhhh, Melbourne weather, it really does give us a variety.

Fuzzy head

Markets are over and the cleaning has commenced.

I wanted to thank you for your lovely comments, sorry if I haven't replied back lately, I am still living with this fuzzy head that will hopefully be better soon.

It was a beautiful Melbourne day yesterday but I really wished I was at home sleeping, not a good feeling.
Overall, very enjoyable day and always lovely to put faces to names.
The little one and I have been op-shopping lately..maybe a bit too much, whilst the bigger one is at kinder, so we wanted to play along today with Sophie and show you our finds.

You know I love suitcases, well we found two, at our local tip shop (thanks for the suggestion) and some beautiful golden books as well.

A market or two...

I have been battling with a head cold turned migraine the last two days and now I am up to my ears in flour, dough, sprinkles, icing....you name it.

We have two markets on tomorrow, the wonderful Northside Makers Market and The Gardens Market.

Would love to see you there, you may even find some gorgeous handmade stuffs and a cupcake or two there aswell. (this blatant advertising tells you more)

Hot Cross Buns

Even though hot cross buns signal Easter time, it feels as if they have been in shops since after Christmas!

Baked some yesterday and will bake some more for the market this Saturday.

They take time to rise but nothing beats a hot cross bun out of your own oven....can you smell them...mmmm

I make myself a version without egg or butter, just replace with soy milk and some olive oil

Hot Cross Buns

makes 12 (conversions)


  • 1 tablespoon dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 1/4 cup plain flour
  • 2 teaspoons mixed spice
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup dried fruit
  • 1 egg
  • 50 grams melted butter
  • Mix warm milk with yeast and 2 teaspoons of sugar.
  • Let sit for 5 minutes somewhere warm until frothy, indicating that the yeast is active.
  • In a large bowl add the sugar, flour, mixed spice, cinnamon and dried fruit, mix until combined.

  • Make a well in the center and add the melted butter, egg and yeast mixture.
  • Use a butter knife to mix then tip out onto a lightly floured bench and knead for 8 minutes till smooth and elastic. (add more flour or water if the dough is too sticky or dry)
  • Place dough into an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place for 45 min or until doubled in size
  • Take dough out and knead lightly then break into 12 segments of equal size.

  • Roll them into balls and arrange on a greased baking tray
  • Allow to rise in a warm place for another 40 mins.
  • During this time preheat the oven to about 200 degrees and make up a mixture for the crosses

Crosses: mix flour and water till it is a wet paste and pipe over the bunsGlaze mixture: 1/4 cup hot water 3 tablespoons of caster sugar

  • Bake for 10 mins then turn down oven to 180 degrees and cook for another 20-25 min or until springy to touch
  • Brush glaze over them as soon as they are out of the oven and allow to cool
