My Creative Space...Apple & Berry Crumble

Haven't really been creating anything much of late so when I was lucky enough to be given some homegrown apples from a friend I had to create * an apple crumble!

You can use any fruit you have on hand really and if you have frozen fruit in the freezer just add it to the mix.

This recipe is adapted for my taste, omitting the butter.

Apple & Mixed Berry Crumble
serves 6

ingredients
  • 1 kg apples
  • 1 1/2 cups mixed berries (or as many as you'd like)
  • sugar
  • vanilla
  • 350g rolled oats
  • 200g brown sugar
  • maple syrup
method
  • peel and core apples and cut them into slices, give them a wash and place them in a pot over medium heat for a few minutes, add a splash of vanilla and a few generous tablespoons of sugar depending on how sweet your fruit is and leave on the stove for another few minutes
  • preheat oven to 190C/170C fan, place rolled oats and brown sugar into a bowl, mix until combined, add as much maple syrup as you like so it coats the oat mixture, needs to clump together
  • place apples into 30 x 20cm baking dish, add the frozen berries and top with rolled oat mixture making sure fruit is covered
  • bake for about 40 minutes or until top is golden and juices bubbling from the sides

As simple as that.  Now go and visit some real creating!

Happy day to you ♥

* this recipe is way too simple to be even classed as creating

Oh my goodness! That's even easy enough for me to make. I have to remember to buy some rolled oats and some frozen berries in the morning... and ice cream

Apple crumble was my childhood signature dish, so I have a lovely relationship with it, even if I feel a little childish when I make it! I love this time of year when the first apples are coming in and the blackberries are ripening on the vines - it sure is apple and berry crumble time! I posted about mine recently although i didn't include the recipe because I really don't really measure anything.

Oh and that IS creating Cathie - who said it had to be complicated?

Hope you're enjoying your week, and that everyone's settling in to their new routines. xx Sarah

I'm loving your recipe with no butter and maple syrup. How lovely would that taste??? I'm onto it this week. We have crumbles pretty much every week. It's all my men's favourite dessert round here. x

Goodmorning Cathie!
I never heard of this apple crumble, only as an apple crumble pie, so have to try it out, look good and honestly I think I could smell it right through the screen... or is it my morning imagination... You know, you say that you are not creating, if someone gave me apples, I wouldn't even dream to make something with them, just cut and eat, so in my book you are tres creative with this my dear,
have a good weekend!

The humble crumble is still one of my all time favourite desserts. My life is lacking if it's not injected with regular bowlfuls of crumble.
Lovely pictures...

Hi Cathie! Glad to hear Amelie is doing better at school, still cant get over how beautiful her birthday pics are, so sweet! I made apple crumble for desert last week, it is the best sweet treat I think, not too sweet but sweet enough to make you feel naughty, not too fattening either, and so so easy to whip up!
