My Creative Space...some more kids drawing embroidery

After seeing Amelie's library bag there was a "why you not make me one?" request from Aidan, so I have started on his work of art and promised him it will be done next week as the next couple of days will be a bit chaotic around here.

There will be some serious baking going on for my favourite market on this Saturday.
If you are in the area it is a great little market to visit.

Happy creating wherever you may be and for some serious creativity pop over here

Enjoy the sunshine my friends ♥

Love waking up to

these little toes that sneak in during the night

I have to edit to add that this is Aidan

that sneaky smile that makes my heart smile

wearing daddy's shoes because he loves it so much

the boy being home on the long weekend and enjoying his brekkie outside in the beautiful autumn morning sun

yummy hot soy chai with honey

home made hot cross buns

and I especially love that after an anxious few months, I can finally sleep knowing that it can just be stress that makes you feel sick

Hope you love waking up to the simple things around you.

Enjoy the long weekend and the last few days of the school holidays my friends ♥

Last week...

was the first week of school holidays and it was good to be able to wake up without the alarm and the stress of routine

last week I finished off Amelie's library bag using some beautiful fabric I won from this lovely lady and am SO happy that she loves it

last week we had a sweet little friend come for the day and we made and decorated cupcakes

and baked some gingerbread cookies, especially cats with m&m eyes

and last week we made some pirate cupcakes for a lovely friends sweet boys 5th birthday

belt made by Curlypops

so this week I promised Aidan I will start a library bag for him as well and also sign up here for a cushion cover swap.

If you are interested, pop round to Vic's and sign up, everyone is welcome.

Could you also please pop round to Nikki's and see if you can help.

What are you up to this week?

Hope it's filled with fabulousness ♥

Last week...

was so jam packed that this week I just want it to be as boring as possible.
I know it's not going to happen, but I can wish can't I

last week was the last week of term and Easter happenings were all around

I baked some Easter gingerbread for the kids at school

I made an Easter bonnet for Amelie using a flower tutorial from here (I originally saw it on someone else's blog but I cannot remember where, if it was yours please let me know)

I had an order for a 60th birthday cake which I absolutely loved making

gingerbread numbers and a chocolate layer cake

so this week, I intend on using the yummy homemade soap I received in the mail, thank you for the surprise sweet lady

this week I am going to bake some naan bread from my new cookbook from the loveliest of friends (you are awesome) which I am absolutely loving

and this week we are going to enjoy the first week of school holidays and I will be smiling as I am SO proud that my girl got through her first term of prep, exhausted but filled with inspiration and willingness to keep on learning (love you baby girl ♥)

What are you up to this week friends?
Whatever it is, I hope it's filled with lots of giggles, hugs and love and if you can, can you pop on here and vote for my lovely friend Miss Curlypops, she very much deserves to win..thank you ♥
and if you want to laugh, pop by here as well

Flowers and Easter Bonnets

There has been alot of construction over here lately and there will be alot of baking happening soon too.

Constructing a fondant flower to be used as a cake topper for a cake order

and manically constructing an Easter bonnet for Amelie for tomorrow's Easter parade.
Thanks for the encouraging words, I hope it looks good after all the cutting, pasting, stapling and sticking happening.

I was inspired by a lovely friends birdie I have hanging and recycled some lovely wrapping paper too.

Happy creating you lovely bunch of girls, two more days of school left..yay!!

Jam Scrolls

I have made these jam scrolls three times so far and every time they disappear before I can even get the camera out.
You can use the base recipe and then add whatever filling you like in the middle, so far I have used blackberry jam, strawberry jam and these ones were filled with breakfast marmalade.

Jam Scrolls
makes 12

  • 100ml lukewarm milk
  • 60g caster sugar
  • 7g dry yeast or 20gr fresh yeast
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 500g plain flour
  • 50g partially melted butter
  • jam filling of your choice
  • combine milk, sugar and yeast in a jug, if using dry yeast, allow to stand for about 5 minutes to activate, it should froth a little.  if it doesn't it may not be active so best start again
  • place yeast mixture in a bowl of a mixer with a dough hook and start mixing
  • add eggs and a pinch of salt and continue mixing
  • add flour whilst mixer is still going and then slowly add the butter and mix on low until mixture is well combined
  • increase speed and allow the dough to knead for another 5 minutes until smooth and elastic
  • take dough out of bowl, spray bowl with oil spray and place dough back in and cover with plastic wrap
  • allow to stand in a warm place for about 2 hours or until doubled in size
  • take dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 30 sec
  • roll out to a rectangle, 30 x 60cm with the longest side facing you
  •  spread with jam of your choice leaving a few centimetre border all around, if jam is too thick, microwave for about 10-20 seconds to soften
  • roll dough from the longest side to form a long thin roll, cut into 12 even pieces and place in a greased 20x30cm pan allowing room for them to expand
  • sprinkle with raw sugar, cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot for another 30 minutes or until doubled in size
  • preheat oven to 180C and bake until golden, about 25-30minutes, you may need to check half way through baking time and rotate pan
I hope you enjoy this and if you don't have an electric mixer with a dough attachment you can knead it all by hand, about 8-10 minutes until it's elastic and smooth

A few of you asked about the girls, we have four now,  a couple of Isa browns, a Golden laced wyandotte and a Black Ancona.

They are great to have around but anything new in the garden they will dig up so veggies need to be covered as they can be destructive.

Happy Wednesday to you all ♥

this week there's an Easter bonnet parade at Amelie's school and we have to decorate her hat, she wants to win...(I'm nervous)

and this week the girls need some more food as the bag "accidentally" spilt in the garage  (hmmm...thank you Aidan)
